Primary MFL Conference
'...highly informative, enjoyable and well received by the participants.'

Primary MFL Conference

The Primary MFL Conference had the following aims;

  • highlight the expectations of the new curriculum, and what schools will need to introduce to be able to meet these,
  • look at different strategies for delivery in school, and the pros and cons of each of these,
  • consider the benefits of teaching MFL in primary (e.g. the demonstrable positive impact that research has shown on English literacy skills),
  • demonstrate effective practice in language teaching and learning and
  • review the resources commercially available to schools to support MFL in Key Stage 2.

Delegates were able to see various strategies in practice, and also classroom video footage to show the achievement of children in years 3 and 5 speaking – and singing – confidently in Spanish. The keynote speakers, Teresa Tinsley and Kate Board, were enlightening and inspirational when they put the work going on across CTSA into the wider context through the reports that they produce for CfBT and the British Council on language teaching across the UK and in other countries.

Delegates were extremely positive about the conference, and there was a real buzz in the room at the end of the day and a significant appetite to build on the momentum of the day with further networking events.
